Obama and Civil Liberties: The Prospect of Four More Years
(Highlights)
Obama has the power to “Indefinitely Detain Americans” under NDAA, He could have closed “Guantánamo Prison” by executive order but didn’t. He has increased “Warrantless Wiretapping” and the “War on Whistleblowers.” With his “Kill List” he can order the death of any person, even an American citizen, and this his deliberation over the decision alone constitutes “due process.” Obama has deported undocumented workers at a far faster rate than Bush—over a thousand per day—and the percentage who have no criminal record has actually risen on his watch. On the drug war, Obama violated an easy campaign promise, one that even most Republicans could get behind—ceasing the federal raids of medical marijuana dispensaries where states allow them to legally operate. Under Obama, the raids have escalated by a factor of eight…etc.
All modern presidents have been terrible on civil liberties. But Obama has done as much to build on his predecessor’s awful record as Bush did to build upon Clinton’s. Meanwhile, these issues of human rights have become non-issues, because left-liberals would rather defend Obama’s presumably great domestic economic policies than criticize him for his kill list, kangaroo courts, and dungeons.
It’s Official: Liberals and Conservatives Becoming Zombies
(Highlights)
Like the first four years, self-proclaimed progressives will continue to support the wholesale slaughter of innocent people in foreign countries, indefinite detention, banker bailouts, free trade, and a gross violation of civil liberties and Constitutional rights. While these very acts were once what liberals claimed was fueling their hatred of George W. Bush, it turns out that what passes for a progressive in 2012 is a rejection of war and totalitarianism directed by Republicans – not war and totalitarianism itself.
While rumblings amongst true Liberals of Obama’s treachery are indeed beginning to take place, the fact is they have remained dormant for far too long. In truth, it is a shame that they were ever silent to begin with.
At the end of the Obama regime, it will be apparent to every Democrat that “their” candidate was every bit as bad as the one belonging to the “other team.”
